An Ode to (True) Friendship

What is a true friend?

It’s a big question.

If you know what I meant:

One deserving deep reflection.

Reciprocity is the key,

With no expectation of favours.

Giving mutually,

All out of care for each other.

A true friend reaches out

Because you’re on their mind.

With lots to chat about;

Together you share golden times.

A true friend is present

Through your ups and downs.

When you’re in a predicament,

They lift you from the ground.

They lend you an ear and back your dreams.

A friend respects your views and ideas,

No matter how silly they seem.

Kindness and trust a true friend offers.

True friendship can thrive

If boundaries are strong.

Together, living your own life

Keeps a friendship long.

Old friendships are mellow wines.

Yet, spoilage might be their fate

Without your effort and time.

May our friendship thrive till the last of our days.
